death

I know its a grim title but since yesterdays title was life it is only fitting that todays is death. Our poor little bunny died last night. A friend of mine tells me that I have the gift of mercy. Last night the kids both woke up in the middle of the night crying and worried about "our" bunny b/c it was raining, cold, and dark. I assured them that bunnies are used to living outside and that its mommy would care for it. The last I checked the bunny was cuddled up under a little rug that I had placed outside by its home to offer some shelter. This morning Hannah woke up and ran downstairs to go out and check on the bunny. I went out with her and we checked in the hole and he wasn't there so we checked under the rug and there he was not moving. I told Hannah he was asleep so we had better leave him alone. She went off to school and I didn't have the heart to tell her that he was dead. Kenneth took care of the bunny while she was at school and when she arrived home I told her that the mommy bunny had come back for him. I cried after she left for school and felt like it was my fault the bunny died b/c I put the rug out there in the first place. I think it started raining and the rug got heavy with water and the bunny couldn't get out. Just typing that brings me to tears. The kids were happy to hear that the mommy had come back for him but said they would miss him. I was surprised at Hannah's compassion for this little creature and how much love she had for him. Maybe she has the gift of mercy as well. Goodbye sweet bunny ):

I'm sorry. I know that was hard on you. I understand the tears.

I'm sorry, too! Isn't amazing how much love and compassion our kids have? What an opportunity for you to see Hannah and Hudson feel compassion and love for this bunny. You are so good at teaching your kids through everyday experiences, the happy and the sad. They are blessed to have you as their mother.
