The Windy City

This past weekend I was able to enjoy a three day/two night trip to Chicago with my mom, sisters and brother. Kenneth was kind enough to stay home with the kiddos so I could enjoy this awesome weekend. My mom paid for the entire trip as a special treat for us. She is the best mom in the world (for a million reasons!!). We stayed downtown and loved walking around the city. I love the hustle and bustle of the city. I could sit and watch people walk by for hours. We went to the top of the John Hancock tower on Friday night and enjoyed drinks and appetizers. The view from the 96th floor restaurant is breathtaking!!!!We enjoyed shopping during the day on Saturday. One of my favorite spots was the Hershey store!!! Chocolate everywhere and in every form!!! On Saturday night we went to dinner at a French restaurant (I couldn't even read the menu) and then went to see "Wicked". I loved this show!!! It is the untold story of the witches of Oz. Very cool and has a very good moral. We sat in the second row so we had great seats. We went to the House of Blues after the musical. It was great to spend time with my sisters, brother and mom all together. We rarely get that opportunity anymore. My sister lives in Atlanta, my other sister is student-teaching during her last semester at Purdue and my brother is a nurse at the IU med center in the ICU (he works nights). Sunday we walked down to the Navy Pier and looked out over the water. It was actually warm on Sunday so it was refreshing to walk by the water and see the seagulls flying around. We took a bus to Lincoln park and ate lunch at a great little spot in the area. This area is so cool. It reminds me a little of Broad-ripple. There are tons of little shops and cool places to eat all nestled in a really neat part of town. Sunday was also my 34th birthday (I know you all thought I was waaaaayyyy younger than that =). My family bought me a little cake and put candles in it and sang to me in the hotel. How sweet. We kissed my sister Lindsay goodbye (she took the train to the airport) and headed home around 5pm. On the way home I thought about how blessed I am to have such wonderful relationships with everyone in my family. I love them so much and this weekend was very special to me. When I arrived home the kids had made me cards with stickers all over them. On Monday Kenneth made my favorite cake (cherry-chip with cherry icing) and my dad made us dinner at his house. I am really spoiled!! I had a great weekend and got tons of great gifts from my family. My favorite part of the entire weekend - Just being together in the windy city. Thanks mom!!!
