A good weekend

We had a great weekend as a family and I learned a lot in the process. Here are some of the things I learned:

1. Drinking a glass of red wine and eating a square of dark chocolate every day can increase your life span four years!! Its true!! My mom had some friends over and we decided to join them for some wine and chocolate. They said they took a test on line and that when they added a glass of red wine and a square of chocolate daily (the key is daily) it added four years to their life expectancy! Well I figure if its working for them it will probably work for me!!! =)

2. The best things in life really are free. My mom and I tried to go see a movie at the art museum ($8 a ticket) but it was sold out. She told me that she heard they had free movies at the city market downtown so we decided to check it out. We had soooo much fun!! They had tables set up and a big outdoor screen. Everyone had their picnic baskets and blankets. Mom brought (wine, of course - and bunch of other wonderful snacks - including chocolate) They provided free pizza and we watched a great movie. In case your interested they have these every Friday night!!

3. One persons trash is another persons treasure. I have really gotten into garage saleing this year. I have even gotten the kids hooked!! Hudson will see things out on someones lawn and say "garage sale!!!" I give the kids each a few quarters and they have a ball. I went this week and found fall clothes for Hudson, a train table for his birthday, a pink soccer ball for Hannah (since she is starting soccer this fall), and some great snacks along the way. I have gotten some of my favorite things for $1 at these great sales!!

4. Cooking can be fun. Sunday morning I decided to cut up all of our vegetables (we belong to a vegetable co-op so we get tons of veggies each week) and make stir fry to freeze for later. The kids wanted to help so I pulled up two chairs to the island and gave Hannah a butter knife and Hudson a play knife and told them to help me out. Hannah cut all the ends off the green beans, Hudson cut pieces of broccoli into shreds!!!, I cut up the zucchini and squash and we put it all into bowls. We then cut up 4 lbs of strawberries - the kids loved this. Hannah would say "Huddy chop the green head off" and they would cut the stem off and then Hudson would shove it into his mouth. I am pretty sure none of his made it into the bowl. Anyway, When Kenneth came downstairs they started shouting "daddy's coming!!! daddy's coming!!!" Hannah said it was the best morning!! They showed off all their hard work to Kenneth and couldn't wait to have stir fry (now that's worth it)

5. Kids pick up on everything!!! Yesterday I realized how much our kids pick up on. I was telling my mom something and said "oh so and so would kill me if I did that" Then I hear in the background "Don't ever say kill mommy - don't you ever ever say that again that is mean" So I tell her she is right but that I didn't mean it in a mean way. Next I am on the phone and I say "Oh my gosh!!" Again out of the other room comes "Mom we don't say gosh we say goodness. Did you hear me mom? We don't say gosh!!" So again I tell her I am sorry you are right I will try to remember. Later I said "but" in a conversation and "I don't care" I think I said lets go to so and so for dinner but if you would rather go somewhere else I don't care. I hear my little parrot again "Butt is a bad word and you shouldn't say I don't care. That's not nice." She even gave me a lecture on anger. She is very strong willed and the other day I told her I was starting to get angry with her behavior. She quickly said "God is not happy with you right now, God doesn't like an angry heart, He likes a kind heart." The she followed it with "Even though God doesn't like it that you are angry He still loves you" I guess they pick up everything - The good and the bad. Like my grandpa used to say "outta the mouths of babes"

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!!!!
