For a moment

This morning my sister took the kids so I could get some things done. When she left I started thinking of all the things I needed to get done in 3hrs. The one thing that kept coming to mind though was the fact that I hadn't spent any time with God in a long time. It didn't seem like this would be good use of my 3hrs of free time (I know it sounds selfish - b/c it is). My heart kept tugging though so I picked out a worship CD and picked up my bible and sat on the living room floor. You don't realize how much you miss someone until you are without them and then see them again. I realized in my living room floor that I really missed my time with God. He always sets my heart straight, gives me hope for the day, and gives me valuable information to keep me going when things are tough. Today He brought several things to my heart that really made me think. I first thought about the fact that Jesus was never shaken by the world around him. When things around him fell apart or people acted in ways that they shouldn't he was compelled to love them or pray for them. He was a rock -His reactions were not determined by peoples actions. I thought to myself that I really need that in my life.. When the kids are fighting, our car breaks down, our air condition has gone out, Kenneth and I are in a spat (all things that happened this week) I want to be a rock. I want to live in a way that is consistent with my belief in God. All of these things are only for a moment. Life is only for a moment. We don't know how many days we have left so for this moment that I have been given I want to put on love. I want the kids to know that mom may grow weary at times but I wont let moments of frustration or confusion shake my faith. I also realized that I will never be able to comprehend the amount of love Jesus must have had to die on the cross for the sins of ALL people (from beginning of time until the end). Its funny that every day with kids brings chaos but at the end of each day after I tuck them into bed (ok I tuck Hannah in and then put Hudson in his crib and listen to him cry) I always think to myself "boy I love these kids" "they are the best part of each day" I know God feels the same way about us. I throw fits, neglect my relationship with God, do things my way Yet at the end of each day I know God still loves me and thinks that His children are the best part of His day. Hannah was having a conversation with her friend, Maegan Collins, the other day. We were on the way to VBS and so I asked the girls if they knew what a Christian was. Hannah told Maegan that a Christian is someone who loves people. Its funny I thought the answer would be a person who loves God. I realized she was right. A Christian is someone who loves people - ALL people!! We can only love all people if we love God - He gives us the ability love people that are unlovable in the worlds eyes. He gives us the ability to love unconditionally.

Oh yeah, Hudson slept until 4am and then woke up. I went in and changed his diaper and gave him a drink and then left the room. He cried for about two minutes and then went to sleep and slept until 8:40am!!! I think we are on the way to a good nights sleep!!

Hey Loree!

Thanks for the blog! While I was in Africa people kept crying about the injustice that we were experiencing. And there were moments where I got teary-eyed as well and really struggled about how I was not moved like others. My first reaction was to wonder how I could fully love the people I was encountering. What would it look like to love them?

I would start to feel guilty about not crying as much as other people, but reading your blog made sense. Jesus didn't cry first, he loved. It gives me hope that God will continue to move me to love others, but also continue to challenge me to be moved by others suffering.

Thanks.

peace.
